Soul Review

(February 7, 2011) New York, NY: The scene was a dimly lit bar with about 60 people sitting, talking, and enjoying themselves. Some people are upstairs in the balcony seating away from the larger crowds downstairs. There is a nicely sized stage in the corner on the Rockwood Music Hall Stage Two, complete with lighting and aesthetic curtains above. Tonight was the free encore presentation of the Soul Review, one that would benefit Free Arts NYC, and organization that "provides under-served children and families with a unique combination of educational arts and mentoring programs that help them to foster the self-confidence and resiliency needed to realize their fullest potential."

SET LIST:

The music was all cover songs, but the soul and the vibes in the room was so strong. The musicians were so talented, and as you'll see, the list is very long. The show lasted about two hours, and then continued into an encore with the musicians that already performed, and even some artists that were in the crowd that wanted to get up on stage and entertain the crowd.

At the end of the show they gave out DVDs of past performances, and a mix of all the artists original music. When I popped that CD into my car I couldn't stop listening to it. Check out these artists, download their music...you'll love this stuff!

I went with fellow DJ Stephanie Walshand we even got the chance to talk to Charlene Kaye's Violinist, Megan Cox, who has a very interesting musical history and her own solo stuff! She graciously gave us some of her time backstage to tell us a little about her, the posting will be up soon!

Fists In Air Garunteed:

Why? Because with these guys you'll be headbanging and trashing so hard I say you may just start a revolution. Another awesome Vancouver band Titans Eve has just released their debut concept album 'The Divine Equal'. This metal band knows how to throw down, as they have been the past two years touring. In addition to their take on the battle of heaven and the deceit of the serpent, 'The Divine Equal' brings forth a thrash pounding metal assault with catchy choruses and colossal guitar riffs.

Head to their site and find a free download!

That's all for today folks, I hope you enjoy!

Charlene Bowls Away Crowd @ The Gutter

Last Friday (4/4/11) Stephanie Walsh from Side B Radio and I headed our to The Gutter in Williamsburg, Brooklyn NY, to check out Charlene Kaye perform with her band The Brilliant Eyes. This show was particularly exciting! This was the venue's forth live performance in their 'back room'. Also, Charlene debuted three new songs that will be featured on her newest CD release!

The Gutter is a dimly lit dive bar, with six (or seven?) lanes to bowl on. They have just expanded the venue with the 'back room', complete with standing room for almost 100, if not more, people and a full bar.

Charlene played a full set and encore, including three new songs and a cover song! The crowd was great, Charlene was an amazing performer as always. She is so lively on stage and frequents the crowd by jumping off stage and joining the hype. She uses any instrument around her, from shakers to a megaphone, there is never a time when she isn't moving with the music.

Be sure to follow Charlene on Twitter, and watch out for the interview with Charlene, which will b e released sometime this week.

Turrigenous is on Rock Band!

Just last week Turrigenous was brought to the world of Rock Band with their song 'A slight Amplification'. Almost instantly the online community was buzzing with commentary. Arguments about the song being too hard, being a good song for rock band..but only one thing stood true and undisputed.

Turrigenous tears down the house.

Videos have been popping up of people attempting the song on expert, trying to show the world the charts of the song. This one just hit yesterday, and it's freakin awesome. This guy creams the bass on expert, and by creams I mean gets 100% on the song. It's his group's goal, called Elite Rhythm Gaming. It's the first documented perfect game play on expert for the song.

Congrats to the boys in Turrigenous! Not only are they on a very popular video game, they also have a few thousand more people worldwide aware of the metal machine on Long Island.
